Patio Extension and Outdoor Seating Area for Sugar Grounds Cafe in Middlefield

Sugar Grounds Cafe in Middlefield had a great building and a solid concept - but their outdoor space wasn't doing much for them. There was room to work with on the side of the building, and the goal was simple: turn that unused space into somewhere customers actually want to sit down and stay a while.

We came in and built out a full patio extension wrapping around the side of the cafe. The stamped concrete ties right into the existing front patio, so the whole thing flows together as one cohesive outdoor area. No awkward transitions. No mismatched surfaces. It just looks like it belongs there.

On the back section, we incorporated a stamped paver area along the fenced perimeter to give the space some visual interest and definition. We also put in a landscaped bed with ornamental shrubs and white decorative rock set against the wooden privacy fence - which adds a finished, polished feel without being overdone. The privacy fence itself does a lot of heavy lifting here, creating a sheltered, semi-enclosed atmosphere that makes customers feel like they're in their own little corner away from the parking lot.

It's about thinking through how people are going to move through the space, where they'll sit, what they'll see, and how the whole thing connects to the building.
