A good-looking front yard doesn't have to mean constant upkeep. That's something a lot of homeowners struggle with - they want curb appeal, but they don't want to spend every weekend maintaining it. This is exactly the kind of challenge we love solving.
Here's what we were working with: a modern black barn-style home that needed landscaping to match its clean, sharp aesthetic. The goal was simple - create something polished and welcoming without adding a bunch of high-maintenance plants or features that would need constant attention.
We installed a curved paver walkway that flows naturally from the driveway up to the covered porch. The gentle curve gives it a relaxed, intentional feel rather than a stiff, straight shot to the door. Flanking the walkway, we laid a wide river rock bed and planted a mix of boxwoods and ornamental grasses - plants chosen specifically because they look great and don't demand a lot from the homeowner. The rounded edging keeps everything contained and defined without looking rigid.
The plant selection was deliberate. Boxwoods hold their shape well and stay tidy with minimal trimming. The upright ornamental grasses add height and texture without taking over. River rock does the heavy lifting where mulch would normally break down and need replacing - it stays in place, suppresses weeds, and looks sharp year after year. That's the kind of thinking we put into every landscape installation we do.
This one isn't fully finished yet - a front lawn installation is still on the way to wrap everything up. But even at this stage, the difference is clear. The hardscape and landscape elements work together to give the home a presence that feels put-together and intentional. That's exactly what good design should do.
