A gravel path that's just kind of there - no real edge, no definition, nothing that says 'this is the entrance' - is one of the most common things we see on rural and cabin-style properties. It works, technically. But it doesn't do anything for curb appeal, and it definitely doesn't hold up the way a properly built paver walkway does.

Here's what we were working with in Parkman: a log cabin-style home with a great natural setting, but the entry path wasn't doing the property any justice. The goal was simple - clean access from the drive to the front door, with a finished look that actually fits the character of the home. Nothing over-engineered. Just solid, well-built hardscape that belongs there.

We started by excavating the path area down to a proper depth, then ran a plate compactor over a gravel base to lock everything in tight before a single paver went down. That step matters more than most people realize. A base that isn't compacted correctly is what causes pavers to shift, sink, and create uneven surfaces down the road. We don't skip it.

The paver pattern we laid uses a tumbled cobblestone-style block in a mix of grey tones, bordered with a darker edge course that ties the whole thing together. The walkway has a gentle curve to it that follows the natural flow of the yard and keeps it from feeling rigid or out of place next to the garden beds. It reads as intentional without being fussy - which is exactly what this property called for.

This is the kind of hardscape work we genuinely enjoy. It's not always the biggest job on paper, but a well-built walkway changes how a property feels the moment you pull up. Clean lines, a solid base, and materials that'll hold up through Ohio winters - that's what we're after on every one of these.
