Bluestone Patio and Formal Garden Built From the Ground Up

This one started with a blank slate. The space had potential - mature trees, a solid home, good bones - but nothing pulling it together. No focal point, no structure, no reason to actually spend time outside. That's the kind of challenge we genuinely enjoy working through.

What we built here is a full landscape design and installation from scratch. A bluestone patio sits at the center of it all, flanked by custom grey sandstone benches that feel like they were always meant to be there. The planting beds are layered - boxwood hedging at the base, hydrangeas adding softness, perennials filling in the color. Everything is arranged with intention. Nothing random.

Beyond the main garden space, we extended the design throughout the property. Bluestone steppers carry you through the side beds and connect the different areas of the yard. We installed fresh sweet peat lawn where open turf was needed, and handled the woodland areas too - moss-covered boulders anchored into mulched beds beneath the tree canopy give those shaded zones a clean, natural feel that actually works with the existing trees instead of fighting them.

Good landscape design isn't just about looks. It's about how a space functions day to day. A patio with seating becomes a place you use. Defined beds with the right plants become something you can actually maintain season after season. That's what separates a well-designed landscape from one that just looks nice for a few weeks. We keep all of that in mind from the first plan to the last piece of stone we set.
